Alphas - Interview with Summer Glau and Showrunner Bruce Miller

Jamie Ruby made a phone interview with Summer Glau and Alphas's showrunner Bruce Miller for SciFi Vision, a few days before the season finale. Summer talks on working on Alphas, her role as Skylar, her relations with other cast member, her Christmas movie for Hallmark Channel 'Help for the Holidays', Knights of Badassdom and more.

Alphas - Phone Interview

Here's the (sorted) transcript of @scifivision live tweets related to Summer Glau, as well as some answers from Bruce Miller :

On Alphas

Summer Glau was attracted to the role of Skylar because she was a mother, which she's not played before. One of biggest challenges is that being a mother doesn't come easy to Skylar, she's used to being alone

Bruce Miller : they wanted to bring Skylar back - that conflict between someone who's self sufficient but not selfish, hard to be a parent. He thinks that Rosen can come back from what he's done - interesting to see someone going through the darkest part of his life

Bruce Miller would love to have Summer Glau as part of an Alphas web series!

Bruce Miller : it was great to see Summer Glau play a different side than tough women like she is used to. He would love to do longer stories about Skylar and Zoe - great relationship you could build a show around

Summer Glau says Erin Way (Kat in Alphas) has been such a blessing - she loves working with girls and finding friendships through work; she's is going to yoga with  Erin Way soon lol. She and Erin Way realized how much they have in common - she respects her; she's a phenomenal actress.

Summer Glau says being on set with Skyler Wexler (her daughter Zoey in Alphas) was a special experience for her and hopes to work with her again

She was hopeful that Alphas would go on - she loves sticking with  a character and getting to watch them evolve. She's been so blessed

Summer Glau : "I would be very excited to come back next season"

She and Bruce Miller talked about a scene that involves all the girls and it made her realize how happy she is to be there

She commented on the terminator comment from this week's

Summer Glau : "I do get jealous some times when I don't get to throw any punches...but Skylar's a badass in other ways"

Summer Glau : Skylar realized that she needed help, the vulnerable position is a transition and it can be beneficial 2 be part of a team

Summer Glau : "you will get to see Skylar become part of the team"

She says John Pyper-Ferguson (Stanton Parish)  is so charismatic and she finds his character fascinating, he conveys it with grace. She couldn't picture anyone but John Pyper-Ferguson in the role, he has a quiet intensity - is compelling, not just black & white

She would love to come back to Alphas (sounds like it's a possibility), she loves working with the cast

Bruce Miller (former Eureka showrunner):  it was a blessing that Syfy let Eureka be its own self (only regret is they never had Summer Glau on it)

Summer Glau says she can barely program her garage remote - is "gadget challenged" lol

Skylar who provides the props helps Summer Glau to understand the tech because it doesn't come naturally to her.

Bruce Miller remembers Summer Glau asking him what voltage meant! lol, but he believes her on the show so she's a great actress. He said : "Summer Glau's natural curiosity allows her to be a better Skylar."

He says the finale will be "great" - everything that you think they never actually go there, they go there. The finale is incredibly surprising and unpredictable sets up an amazing season three."

On Help for the Holidays

Summer Glau just finished a Hallmark Christmas movie that will be coming out also Knights of Badassdom. The Hallmark film was very different for her and fun; she's always wanted to do one. Summer Glau plays an elf in the Hallmark film

On Knights of Badassdom

Summer Glau talks about Knights of Badassdom -it's live action creating in the moment. She and Ryan Kwanten would make some choreography. Summer says she is not the best at "Larping" and Peter Dinklage is great

Miscellaneous

Summer Glau has always found in sci-fi the roles of women are exciting and outside the box. She said : "coming from being a dancer, it was a great way to transition to acting through physical roles (action)"

When she played River in Firefly she had a hard time communicating with the other characters, she communicated through the physicality

She will be visiting her hometown soon.

She said she got a "little bit over excited" seeing the cast of Game of Thrones at New York Comic Con

Summer Glau would take any opportunity to get back together with the Firefly cast & crew (yay)

She hasn't been approached for a Syfy Saturday movie

She talks about playing Supergirl. Voice over is very different than filming; didn't know what would be like; was an addicting experience to strip all but voice. Shesays it was challenging to what she was comfortable with which is good

SciFi Vision will publish soon a more complete interview with Summer Glau and Bruce Miller, and other interviews are underway, stay tuned.

Don't forget to watch Alphas season finale next Monday at 8/7c on Syfy.
