Skype call at Ottawa Comic Con

Listen to Summer Glau's Skype moment during the Firefly panel, recorded at the 2013 Ottawa Comic-Con by members of ConJunkie.

Summer Glau, Nathan Fillion and Jewel Staite should have joined 2013 Ottawa Comic Con for a Firefly cast panel; unfortunately, Summer Glau was not able to make it to the convention (watch her apology video), but was nice enough to skype in during the show.

She mostly repeated her apology for not coming and blamed her lost passport on catburglars. It ended with Nathan and Jewel saying "Suuummmmeeer!" in the style of the blooper real "Summer!" exclamation, and Summer seeming to be just the right annoyed/embarrassed/pleased mixture.

On related news, Summer Glau, as well as Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres will join Philadelphia Comic Con 2013 at the end of May 2013. Ottawa ComicCon organizers have also invited Summer Glau to their Montreal ComicCon, to be held on September 13-15, 2013.

Peter Panzerfaust Motion Comic Trailer

Here's an exclusive trailer for the Peter Panzerfaust motion comic featuring the voice talent of Elijah Wood as Peter, Ron Perlman as Kapitan Haken and Summer Glau as Wendy, adapted from the comic book series by Kurtis Wiebe (story) and Tyler Jenkins (art and cover).

Published by Image Comics/Shadowline, Peter Panzerfaust reimagines J. M. Barrie's original Peter Pan story as a World War II-era adventure, and follows the adventures of an American freedom fighter Peter (voiced by Elijah Wood) in Nazi-occupied Europe, who teams up with a group of French orphans called the Lost Boys, soon joined by the indomitable Wendy (voiced by Summer Glau), to defeat SS Kapitan Haken (voiced by Ron Perlman).

The motion comic trailer shows a glimpse of the artwork coming to life as well as what the actors sound like in their roles. Summer Glau's character Wendy has only one line of dialogue here but obviously she has more lines in the upcoming motion comic.

If the publication schedule announced at the Peter Panzerfaust panel at C2E2 on April 27, 2013 is maintained (the trailer was one day late compared to the initial schedule, though), the release of the full lenght motion comic should follow soon.

Wizard World Philadelphia - Schedule Update

Philadelphia Comic Con attendees will be able to meet Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin and also Gina Torres (who has been added to the guest list as a replacement for Nathan Fillion who cancelled his participation a few days ago). The programming of the convention with all events/panels dates is now known, including the Firefly panel with Summer Glau, Jewel Staite and Adam Baldwin, and presumably Gina Torres.

To all Wizard World Philly atendees, please note that the Firefly panel will take place from 5:00 – 5:45PM at TERRACE BALLROOM 4 on Saturday June 1st.

Summer joined the Firefly panel via skype

Some good news: even though Summer Glau lost her passport and was not able to make it to 2013 Ottawa Comic Con (Watch the video inwhich Summer apologizes to her fans and supporters), she was still able to join the Firefly panel via Skype.

Apparently catburglars - burglars who enter buildings by climbing through upper windows, skylights - are to blame for the missing passport but it's still unclear wether it was a joke or not.

Just got back from the con! What happened was that Summer had been planning to attend the Firefly panel with Jewel and Nathan early in the day. Obviously she couldn't -- but she skyped partway through the panel and talked via audio for a few minutes. She attributed her passport's disappearance to a cat burglar. "I have to get a new one," she added, and then Nathan and Jewel said, with "duh" voices, "Yeah, you do." The tone was delightful and light and pleasant, and it ended with Nathan saying "Suuummmmeeer!" in the style of the blooper real "Summer!" exclamation, and Summer seeming to be just the right annoyed/embarrassed/pleased mixture. It was a good panel.

There was no stream of Nathan Fillion/Jewel Staite's panel and fans were not allowed to take pics of the guests outside the photo ops (or had to do it discreetly).

Summer Glau cancels Ottawa Comiccon

Summer Glau had to cancel her appearance at the Ottawa Comiccon this weekend 11-12 May due to "a personal emergency" in the words of the convention organizers, which turned out to be a simple passport loss.

Here's Ottawa Comiccon statement:

We just heard that unhappily a personal emergency keeps Summer Glau from appearing at Ottawa Comiccon this weekend. She apologizes profusely to her fans and supporters. For those who have bought a trio Firefly photo op with Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau and Jewel Staite, they can go to the photo op booth to exchange them for a duo photo op or a refund.

Summer Glau apologizes to her fans and supporters for not being able to make it to Ottawa Comiccon 2013 in a heartfelt video.

The good news is that Ottawa ComicCon organizers have invited her to their Montreal ComicCon, to be held on September 13-15, 2013. We will keep you informed as soon as Summer is added to the guest line-up for Montreal ComicCon.

Philadelphia Comic Con - Firefly reunion & Updates

No less than four Firefly alumni are scheduled at this year Philadelphia Comic Con. Besides Summer Glau, Wizard World Philly attendees will be able to meet Jewel Staite, Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin.

UPDATE: Nathan Fillion had to cancel his participation to Philadelphia Comic Con due to a scheduling conflict. Read more in the Blog.

The Convention is from May 30-31 to June 1-2, 2013 but notice that Summer Glau will appear only on Saturday June 1 and Sunday June 2.

Unfortunately, it appears that the Firefly/Serenity VIP Experience at Philadelphia Comic Con 2013 as well as the group photos have sold out and tickets are currently not available. Nathan Fillion Meet & Greet, scheduled on Sunday, June 2, 2013, has also sold out.

You can still get an autograph, a photo op with Summer Glau (at her boot only) and a Summer Glau VIP experience ticket. The autograph booth of the Firefly guests are located in the same area (kudos to Wizard World Philly organizer); be sure to check the Philadelphia Comic Con Floor Map. A complete schedule is yet to be published.

Writer Kurtis Wiebe, artist Tyler Jenkins and Peter Panzerfaust motion comic & TV series Executive Producer Jeff Krelitz took the stage at C2E2 for a Q&A panel on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

An attendee published his notes from the panel, including Krelitz words on Elijah Wood, Ron Perlman and Summer Glau's voice work.

My notes from the Peter Panzerfaust panel at C2E2. Overall, the panel was very interesting and included a fantastic and exciting trailer for the motion comic. Panel took form as a Q&A. My notes, a mix of summary and quotations, is below.

I have reproduced a few extracts below:

Question: Voice over for animation.

Producer Jeff Krelitz: Elijah Wood as Peter, Summer Glau as Wendy, Ron Perlman as Hook, and Dante Basco. Orchard scene sounds very promising.

Question: Hearing your characters? How did that feel?

Writer Kurtis Wiebe: Different from voices in head. French characters in my head don’t sound French or speak French. So strange to hear them that way. Very cool. Awesome.

Question: As far as voice-over work goes. Did any actors bring anything special to character that you weren’t expecting?

Producer Jeff Krelitz: Ron read lines in three different voices, his own voice, British, and German accent. German accent was perfect. Elijah got it right off the bat. Understood the character. Summer brought a sense of vulnerability and really got into character. She just let go and poured everything into it. She definitely teared up a few times. /Applause in the booth after an orchard scene reading because so emotional. / I was amazed she was able to deliver so many lines with such range.

An official trailer for the motion comic will be released on May 14, 2013, while the Peter Panzerfaust motion comic itself will be released the following day, on May 15, 2013.

UPDATE: Kurtis Wiebe wrote on his blog about his experience at C2E2, including a few words of thanks to Summer Glau fans.

Ottawa Comiccon - Firefly cast

There will be a Firefly Cast Q&A featuring Jewel Staite & Summer Glau, and group photo as well, at this year Ottawa Comiccon on Saturday May 11th at 11:30 AM on Hall 4.

Doors open for VIP and Deluxe Passes at 9:00 AM; 3-Day and Saturday Passes at 10:00 AM.

Convention goers will have the opportunity to ask Summer Glau and Jewel Staite questions at their Firefly cast Q&A panel and also have a photo taken with both Summer and Jewel for $80. Of course you can also have a photo with Summer alone for $50, and get a signed picture at her autograph session, for $40.

Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau and Jewel Staite will all took the stage at Ottawa Comiccon for a Firefly cast panel on Saturday May 11th at 11:30 AM. on Hall 4.
